Hilltop Student and School Custodian Form Special Bond
Hilltop third grader Isaac Moy shares a special bond with custodian Troy Schliinz, or “Mr. Troy” to the Hilltop students. This week, it became obvious just how special this bond is when Isaac opted to dress like Mr. Troy for “Dress Like Your Favorite Teacher Day” as part of this year’s Homecoming celebration.

Queen Maisie and King Henry Reign over Homecoming '23
An enthusiastic crowd of Mound Westonka High School students and family members gathered at the Westonka Performing Arts Center on Sunday, Sept. 24, when seniors Maisie Wheeler and Henry Meisel were crowned the 2023 MWHS Homecoming Queen and King. The coronation ceremony kicked off a full week of Homecoming activities.

Two MWHS Seniors are National Merit Semifinalists
Mound Westonka High School is proud to announce that seniors Natalie Miner and Cormac Schaefer are 2024 National Merit Semifinalists. As semifinalists, these students placed in the top 1 percent of the 1.5 million students who took the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) last year.

Westonka Students Earn AP Scholar Awards
A total of 41 Mound Westonka High School students have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP exams last school year. "When students are recognized for high performance across multiple measures, it speaks to their balance and ability to consistently represent themselves, their families and MWHS in an honorable light,” said MWHS Principal Jolene Herfel.

Student Senate Makes Plans to Engage Students
The Mound Westonka High School Student Senate’s main goal is simple: students serving students. “Student Senate is excited about a really fun and engaging year with the students and staff of MWHS,” said Advisor Jamie Harms. “From Homecoming events to Prom, with Staff Appreciation, Stuff the Bus, and so much more in between, the Senate's goal this year is to engage all students of MWHS in many different events.”

Shirley Hills Hosts Back-to-School Picnic
The Shirley Hills Primary School PTA hosted a “welcome back to school” picnic and pizza party at the playground on Sept. 8. The event was designed to celebrate the new school year by giving families an opportunity to meet each other.

Westonka Art Students Earn Ribbons at State Fair
Student artists from Hilltop and Shirley Hills primary schools, as well as Grandview Middle School, participated in the annual art competition at the Minnesota State Fair this summer. Westonka students brought home dozens of ribbons, despite stiff competition from across the state.

Link Crew Welcomes New Students to MWHS
The Link Team was eager for 98 Link Crew leaders to come together on August 27 for training to lead the eighth grade Welcome Orientation held on the morning of August 30. All eighth-grade students were either picked up by school bus transportation or were dropped off at the high school for the events that morning.
