Free Summer Meals for Kids

When school's out, free summer meals are in! No cost or enrollment required. Open to all kids and teens under age 19.

Free Breakfast and Lunch for Westonka Students

Under Minnesota’s Free School Meals Program, all students can receive ONE breakfast and ONE lunch free of charge each day at school. All items outside of the complete meal are considered a la carte items. Although no application is required to receive this free meal benefit, filling out the Application for Educational Benefits is still important! Your child(ren) may qualify for other benefits like reduced fees at school. Your application may also help the school qualify for education funds, discounts, and other meal programs.

FAQ About Applying for Educational Benefits

Who should complete the Application for Educational Benefits?

Children in households participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) or Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR), and foster, homeless, migrant and runaway children qualify without reporting household income. Alternatively, children can qualify if their household income is within the maximum income shown for their household size on the instructions.

What are the benefits of filling out the application?

Summer-EBT money for each qualifying student sent directly to the family. Eligible students will receive $40 per summer month from MDE and DHS.
Increased funding for Westonka Public Schools for direct student instruction
Reduced fees for high school sports and activities
Potential scholarships for school fees, AP testing, field trips, college applications, etc.

Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT)

Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT), or Summer EBT, is a program that provides all K-12 students qualified for educational benefits between July 1, 2024 and August 31, 2025 funds to help support meals during summer months.

All eligible students receive $40 per month for June, July, and August. Benefits can be used to purchase healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy, and whole grains. Benefits will be paid in one lump sum of $120 per student. Distribution dates vary but are typically made in late August.

Do I qualify for Summer EBT?

If you are participating in a state program listed below, you will automatically qualify for Summer EBT benefits.

If you have already applied for educational benefits and have received your approval letter, you will automatically qualify for Summer EBT benefits.

If you are not participating in a state program and have not yet applied for educational benefits but think you may qualify, please apply on LINQConnect! If you qualify, we will automatically sign you up for summer EBT benefits.

Summer EBT Cards

Westonka ISD #277 will automatically sign up eligible students to receive the S-EBT card in the mail at the primary household listed in Skyward Family Access. Households need to ensure their address and primary household are up to date in Skyward.

The Summer EBT card is labeled as such and has the child's name and case number on the front. If you lose your Summer EBT card, you can call EBT Customer Service at (888) 997-2227 to order a replacement. There is a $2 charge for replacement cards.

Dietary Statement

Special diet requests and substitutions apply ONLY for a participant with a disability that affects the diet. A licensed physician must complete and sign a Special Diet Statement Form. Milk Allergies & Intolerance

State law (Minnesota Statutes 124D.114) requires a Sponsoring Authority of school meal programs to provide an alternative for a student with lactose intolerance if the parent has requested an alternative in writing. Please complete the form below if you need to request lactose-reduced milk for your child and forward it to Food & Nutrition Services.

Important Note: Juice or water is not recognized by the Minnesota Department of Education and USDA as an approved substitute for lactose intolerance. The currently approved substitute that Food & Nutrition Services provides is: mülü.
