POLICY 1420: UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLE (DRONE) POLICY

I. PURPOSE

The purpose of this policy is to provide guidelines for the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), also known as drones.

II. GENERAL STATEMENT OF POLICY

It is the policy of this school district that the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, also known as drones, is prohibited for any purpose by any person on school district property.

III. DEFINITION

For the purpose of this policy, a UAV is any aircraft without a human pilot aboard the device. This prohibition applies to all fields of play, courts, arenas, mats, gymnasiums, pools, or any other school district facility or property, including spectator areas and parking areas.

IV. IMPLEMENTATION

Representatives of the school district shall refuse admission or entry to anyone attempting to use a UAV; and if necessary, shall remove anyone attempting to use a UAV and/or confiscate the UAV.

V. EXCEPTIONS

Requests for exceptions to this policy must be made in writing, and must include the purpose and the date(s) for which the use of a UAV is requested. A written exception may be granted in specific cases by the Superintendent or their designee.
