Westonka Public Schools ranked first in Minnesota in overall reading and math proficiency on the spring 2026 state assessments, according to data released Sept. 30 by the Minnesota Department of Education.

Among school districts testing at least 100 students in a grade level, Westonka had the highest percentage of students scoring proficient in reading (79%) and math (76%). The district also ranked fifth in overall science proficiency in 2026.

Spring 2026 marked the first year of Minnesota’s new reading assessment and the second year of its new science assessment, both aligned with updated state academic standards.

“These results reflect the hard work of our students, the support of our families and the dedication of our teachers to high-quality instruction that meets students’ needs,” said Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Mark Femrite. “They also affirm our ongoing efforts to strengthen teaching practices and help every student succeed.”

“We are proud of these achievements, and we know there is more work ahead,” Femrite added. “We will continue using assessment results alongside classroom learning to identify areas for growth and support every student’s learning and engagement.”
