Rebecca Sebasky Honored with Ann Bremer White Hawks Award

April 4, 2024 — Westonka Public Schools parent and school volunteer Rebecca Sebasky has been named the 2024 recipient of the Ann Bremer White Hawks Award. The purpose of the annual community award is to recognize outstanding service and commitment to Westonka students and the district.

The award is named in honor of Ann Bremer, a former Westonka School Board member whose record of service as a district parent, community member and on the school board continues to characterize the contributions made by the award nominees. Bremer served on the Westonka School Board from 2004 until her death in 2017. The annual award winners are leaders in positively impacting the lives and experiences of students and their families and advancing the mission and vision of the school district. 

The selection committee chose Sebasky as the 2024 award winner based on her years of selfless service to the school district. Sebasky has dedicated time and effort to a wide range of school programs, including the Westonka Early Childhood Advisory Council, Hilltop Primary School PTA, White Hawks sports teams and organizations, and party planning committees. She has also been involved with community organizations directly benefiting Westonka schools and students.

Although Sebasky has had a long list of contributions to Westonka Public Schools over the years, it was her donation of photography services to Westonka senior families that was specifically called out by her Ann Bremer White Hawks Award nominator. The nominator wrote:

For years (10+) Becky has professionally and discretely provided senior photos for students who have been unable to get their own due to financial and personal barriers. She makes them feel welcomed and like they are the center of the universe in that moment. Beyond the photo session, she edits and creates a beautiful “photo package.” There are numerous seniors who have been able to share a senior experience that they would not have otherwise because of Becky's quiet service.

"We are very proud to present Rebecca Sebasky with this year’s Ann Bremer White Hawks Award,” said Westonka Superintendent Kevin Borg. “We know the Westonka community has many deserving people who give generously of their time. Rebecca is being recognized not just for the breadth of her involvement but the care in which it is done.”

“Through years of serving with a variety of organizations, as well as her individual efforts like providing free senior photos to those who may face financial barriers, Rebecca makes Westonka a stronger school community,” Borg added. “Her selfless efforts epitomize Ann Bremer’s legacy, demonstrating that through small acts of kindness, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all."

Sebasky will be presented with her award at the Westonka Public Schools Staff and Retiree Recognition Event on May 3. She will also be recognized at a fall football game.
