Superintendent's Update
Borg Report January 9, 2026
With news following the tragic death of Renee Good and other events in Minneapolis this week, I have received a few messages from families and felt it important to communicate with you. I want to assure you that Westonka’s teachers, administrators and staff remain focused on ensuring the safety, well-being, and education of every student in our care.
It is important for you to know that the district has plans and protocols in place in the unlikely event that ICE and/or U.S. Border Patrol agents arrive at any of our schools. Our administrative procedures are aligned with legal requirements and limitations, and these procedures have been shared with all staff.
As always, we are here to provide reassurance and support to our students, families and staff. Below are resources we have shared previously that you may find helpful in navigating questions students may have at home.
Resources for families
- How to talk to children about difficult news (American Psychological Association)
- How to Talk With Kids About Tragedies & Other Traumatic News Events (American Academy of Pediatrics)
- Helping children and adolescents cope with disasters and other traumatic events (National Institute of Mental Health)
- Explaining the news to our kids (Common Sense Media)
If your student is struggling, has questions, or needs additional support, we encourage you to reach out to your school directly. Principals, counselors, social workers, and trusted staff members are available to listen, provide guidance, and connect families with resources.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we work to ensure safe, welcoming and supportive learning and working environments for all.
Sincerely,
Kevin Borg, Superintendent
