Summer Construction Updates

Summer Construction Updates

Borg Report July 15, 2025

I hope you’re having a great summer. I wanted to briefly check in with a few reminders and updates on the construction at (the now officially renamed) Westonka Middle School and Westonka High School.

Transformation in Progress! As you may have noticed, our new district website launched earlier this month. I invite you to follow along with the summer construction by visiting www.westonka.k12.mn.us/bondprojects. There you will find artist renderings, updated construction photos, and detailed project lists. We remain incredibly grateful for the community’s support of the bond that is making this transformation possible.

It’s an exciting time on the high school and middle school campuses - walls are going up, spaces are taking shape, and we’re beginning to see the outlines of the innovative learning environments that will serve Westonka students for generations. From new classrooms and learning/performance spaces to upgraded security and mechanical systems, the improvements underway will truly elevate the student experience.

The response to the new high school tennis courts, which opened in June, has been really positive and energetic. This project offers an exciting preview of the improvements we can look forward to as the rest of construction unfolds.

This is my fourth construction project in Westonka and, as is often the case, weather and older buildings can present challenges. Our crews will be using every minute and then some to get ready for the start of the school year. We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we move through each phase of the project.

Keep Out of Construction Zones: Please remember that no visitors are allowed in the construction areas at Westonka Middle School and Westonka High School over the summer. We’ve reached the phase in construction that involves regular steel deliveries, heavy machinery, and daily construction traffic in and out of the high school’s north parking lot. Therefore, we are implementing a new process for entering Thaler Arena, effective this Thursday, July 17. For everyone’s safety, we will no longer allow anyone to cross the north lot to access the arena. Instead, visitors will enter the arena by walking around the old tennis court area to enter the arena (see attached map).

School Year Entry at WHS: At the start of the 2025-26 school year, all students, staff and visitors will be using the east (courtyard) entry at Westonka High School. The north doors will remain closed during fall construction and are expected to reopen this winter. Please watch for more detailed information coming in August about start-of-school logistics.

Enjoy the rest of your summer, and thank you for your continued partnership!

Sincerely,

Kevin Borg, Superintendent
