Preparing for a Busy Construction Season

Preparing for a Busy Construction Season

Borg Report April 3, 2026

I hope all of our Westonka families and staff had a relaxing and rejuvenating Spring Break.

As we head into the spring and summer months, Westonka Public Schools is preparing for a significant season of construction across the district. Through this construction, we have appreciated the teamwork, flexibility, and patience from our students, staff, families, and community. We are continually grateful for your support as we work to elevate the experience for all Westonka students.

Construction at the high school will continue throughout 2026 and 2027. In addition, projects at Hilltop and Shirley Hills primary schools—focused on deferred maintenance and enhancements to key learning spaces—are scheduled to begin in June and be completed prior to the start of the 2026-27 school year.

We're already seeing the impact of the redesign of Westonka High School, where newly completed academic spaces are transforming the learning environment for our students. Larger classrooms and flexible learning areas are providing more opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and engagement. We invite you to view a short video showcasing these new spaces and the difference they are making in teaching and learning.

What’s Ahead

April 2026

The WHS gym is now closed to the public and is expected to reopen in mid-August. On the high school campus, work on the track and interior field, as well as the fields south of the Westonka Activity Center, is expected to begin later this month once road restrictions are lifted. For your safety, all community members must stay off Fields 7-12 once construction begins. Please follow all posted construction signage and refer to the athletic field construction zone map for guidance.

May 2026

We are excited that the high school main office will be relocated to the north side of the building, which will improve visibility and wayfinding, enhance security through better sight lines, and more effectively accommodate the high volume of students and visitors. The north entrance is expected to reopen for students and visitors in May; at that time, the courtyard entrance will close to accommodate construction.

Summer 2026

Due to significant construction at the high school, Hilltop, and Shirley Hills, the majority of youth summer programming will take place at Westonka Middle School. Along with interior renovations at the high school, the WHS parking lots will be reconstructed during the summer months. The Westonka Activity Center will be closed to the public June 1-July 26, 2026.

Fall 2026

Construction will continue in several areas of the high school campus, including the Little Theater, the existing courtyard, the athletic concourse, and the multi-use fields south of the high school and stadium.
