Back-to-School Construction Updates
Borg Report August 13, 2025
The start of the 2025-26 school year is just around the corner, and we can’t wait to welcome all Westonka Public Schools students back to school on Tuesday, September 2. Construction crews at Westonka Middle School and Westonka Middle School are working diligently to have everything ready for the first day of classes.
Westonka Middle School Construction
Work is nearing completion at Westonka Middle School, and we’re excited for students, staff and families to experience the transformation. Summer construction focused on enhancing safety, performing maintenance, and refreshing key learning spaces:
- Safety & Security: A new secure main entrance, enhanced lockdown capacity, and relocated main office.
- Facility Upgrades: New lockers, kitchen air handling unit, and water softener.
- Upgraded Spaces: A renovated media center, updated cafeteria and bathroom, and a refreshed small gym

Middle school students and families will get their first look at the updates during Open House. The broader community is invited to explore the school during Homecoming Week at a WMS Community Open House on Wednesday, October 1 from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.
Westonka High School Construction
At Westonka High School, exciting progress is being made in the first phases of the high school redesign. This summer’s work focused on our core classrooms. Students will soon enjoy larger, newly renovated classrooms equipped with improved instructional technology, as well as flexible learning areas that enrich collaborative learning.
Work in this area will continue through December, and you will witness firsthand the progress of finishing and opening up new classrooms. Construction will proceed in carefully planned phases throughout the year, with the full renovation scheduled for completion in fall 2026.

As a reminder, at the start of the 2025–26 school year, all students, staff, and visitors will use the east (courtyard) entry at Westonka High School. The north doors will remain closed during fall construction and are expected to reopen this winter. WHS families will receive detailed start-of-school logistics later this month.
Tennis Courts Open for Use
The response to the new high school tennis courts, which opened in June, has been overwhelmingly positive. Watch for a highlight video on social media later this week.
This project offers a glimpse of the high-quality facilities and spaces still to come as construction progresses. We’re excited to celebrate the new courts with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Wednesday, October 1 at 5:00 p.m. during Homecoming Week.
We are grateful for the community’s support of the bond referendum that made these transformative facility improvements possible. We look forward to a strong start to the year and can’t wait to see our students walk through the doors this fall!
Sincerely,
Kevin Borg, Superintendent
