  • Westonka Foodies Offer Free Summer Meals

For most kids, summer means carefree days. But for some kids, no school means wondering where their next meal is coming from. Several local organizations are teaming up this summer to make sure kids have access to healthy and nutritious meals. The Westonka Foodies from the Westonka School District will be hosting a Free Summer Meals program again this year.

  • Schools End Year With Parades, Drop-Off Days

The final day of the school year for Westonka primary school students usually involves lots of year-end activities and excitement. Although things looked a little different this year, the excitement was still there as each school planned a special send off to summer. Students at Grandview Middle School and Mound Westonka High School also got the chance to see teachers one more time at materials drop-off days.

  • Long-time Westonka Staff Honored for Years of Service

Due to the statewide school closure and the threat of COVID-19, the annual Westonka Public Schools Retiree and Years of Service Banquet was canceled this year. Forty-two Westonka employees would have been honored May 6 at the Lafayette Club for their years of service to the school district. Superintendent Kevin Borg and the Westonka School Board would like to recognize and thank these long-time staff for their dedicated service to Westonka Public Schools.

  • Hilltop Readers Enjoy Pancake Breakfast

There was a minor traffic jam in downtown Mound Thursday morning. Turns out it was a crowd of hungry readers from Hilltop Primary School lining up for a pancake breakfast at Scotty B’s Restaurant. Each year, Hilltop School celebrates students who reach their reading goals by hosting a breakfast at school put on by Scotty B’s. But with distance learning in place this year, they had to get creative.

  • Support Your Local Schools By Becoming a Short-Call Sub

Although it’s impossible to predict what the 2020-2021 school year will look like, Westonka Schools is anticipating that the district will need a larger pool of substitute teachers in order to operate school next fall. Therefore, Westonka is asking all community members to consider supporting their local schools by becoming a short call sub for the district.
