Community Education Advisory Council
The Community Education Advisory Council is composed of citizens who live and/or work within the boundaries of the Westonka School District. Its mission is to enrich the lives of all community members by promoting citizen involvement and providing lifelong learning opportunities. Individual and family lives are enhanced through programs and activities that not only educate, but also entertain, motivate and rejuvenate.
Community Education offers services through the following areas: Early Childhood Family Education, Preschool/School Readiness, Childcare, Youth Enrichment, Youth recreation/activities, Aquatics, Dance, Adult Enrichment, Adult recreation/fitness, Adult Basic Education/ESL, Adults with disabilities, and facility scheduling.
The council meets five times per year: October 9, December 11, February 12, 2019, April 9, 2019 and June 11, 2019, from 6:30 - 8 pm at the Educational Service Center, Community Room.
We are always looking for new members who are interested in becoming involved with their local Community Education program. Adult members are asked to serve a three-year term and student representatives are asked to serve for one year. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: participation in new member orientation and become familiar with by-laws governing the organization; attend meetings regularly; review agenda and additional materials in advance of each meeting; seek community input regarding issues/concerns before the council; assist Community Education staff in identifying community needs, interests and concerns; and perform other related duties as time, interest, and ability permit.
