COVID-19 Food Service Plans
We will feed kids safely, no matter what!
Students of Westonka Schools will have multiple ways to access meals this fall depending on their grade level and learning model choice.
Please see the information below regarding meal options to start the 2020-21 school year. If the learning model for your student's building, or the district, changes, we will send you information regarding updated meal options. Please don't hesitate to contact our office with questions.
- Meals will be individually packaged.
- We will serve students their favorites.
- A variety of fruits and vegetables will continue to be served.
- Limited a la carte items will be offered (water & milk) at the start of the school year.
Breakfast and lunch menus will follow the National School Meal Program requirements. Menus will be posted online and are subject to change.
Schools in the in-person model will follow the MDH Restaurant Guidance. In the hybrid model, schools will ensure 6-foot social distancing during lunch. Processes are being implemented to move students through lines with minimal congregating.
Staff have been trained, and will continue to be trained, on necessary operating procedures related to COVID-19 and typical food service requirements related to health and safety.
Meals for In-Person Learning Days:
On days when your student is learning in their school building, they will visit our kitchens and cafeterias as they have in previous years but with extra safety and physical distancing measures in place.
Thanks to an extension of the USDA School Meal Waiver announced Aug. 31, all meals for in-person learning days will be provided free of charge. Student meals will not be tracked via PINs or classroom checklists, and students will not need to pass through the cashier with a meal. This process will continue until Dec. 31, 2020, or until the USDA funding runs out. In the event that families must cover the cost of the meals, we will alert you before making the change.
* For more information about how your student’s school is promoting physical distancing during meal services, please reach out to the school directly.
